including the application, placement tests, recommendations and a personal interview.

HoK reserves the right to deny admission to any student for whom we do not think HoK would be a good fit.

Entry during school year

To accommodate families moving to Beijing due to job relocation by embassies, companies, or other unexpected

circumstances, we offer a rolling admissions process for midyear applications. We ask that families applying for

the 2016/2017 academic year make every effort possible to complete the application process in a timely manner.

Applications must be accompanied by all supporting documents and fees. Please refer to the Application Check

list and Admissions Process.

Visiting HoK

We encourage all families to schedule an appointment to visit HoK. During the tour, parents and kids will be

shown our facilities, discuss HoK's methodologies, learn about daily life, and answer any outstanding questions

they may have regarding our programs. Applicants and families of applicants will have the opportunity to hear

from our head principal and admissions team.

Tour times take place during the school day. Victoria Gardens Campus: Tuesdays at 10:00 AM. QuanFa Campus:

Thursdays at 10:00 AM. Please kindly book a space with our admissions officer for the tour.

All families are also welcome to visit the campus to attend any special events. Please contact us to be added to

our mailing list.

Interview and Assessment:

Once the completed Application Form, signed Withdrawal Form, Application fee and Deposit are received, we will

set up a time for your child’s interview. Students applying during the school year are admitted on a rolling basis

as space is available.

We understand that it can be very difficult for your child to undergo any kind of assessment. Please know that

we have carefully considered and designed our admissions process to be as smooth and fair as possible to each

candidate. We also consider the fit of the family as part of our decision, so please try to be patient and take the

time to understand our mission, vision and admissions process, and to make sure you and your family fit with

our educational philosophy and process.

Interview for Nursery and Pre-K students:

We are committed to considering each applicant very carefully and to making sure your child is comfortable

during the process. We look to evaluate the child’s academic readiness, developmental readiness and fit within

our classrooms by talking with both the parents and the child. While we do not expect young applicants to be

fluent in English, we do consider an understanding of the English language by both the child and the parent to be

an advantage. The admissions team and the principal work together to get to know you and your child through

the interview time and admissions process. We observe the child’s interactions with both the interviewer as well

as the parents.

Interview for Kindergarten and Elementary students:

During the admissions interview for students aged 5-11, we look at each applicant holistically. We are looking

to understand the child’s academic and extracurricular interests. We will have reviewed the transcripts,

recommendations and previous academic test results before the interview and will discuss these aspects of the

child’s history. We will first speak with the child individually, and then invite the parents to join and speak all

together. If the parents do not speak English, they will need to bring an interpreter with them to the interview.

Placement

The decision to offer a place at HoK is made by the Admissions Committee. The student's grade level placement

will be confirmed following the testing and interview. Students are accepted on a first-come-first serve basis, and

are not discriminated against based on race, religion, social status, gender or otherwise. Students will be placed

in a grade level that is ability- and age-appropriate for them. Exceptions may be made only at the discretion of

the Principal.

An admission is granted for one school year and re-enrollment depends on satisfactory academic progress, good

behavior and commitment to the student's studies and overall development.

Admissions Priority

HOK will give admissions priority to returning students, siblings of current students or graduates, applicants for

full-day classes, sibling groups, and those on the previous year’s waiting list.

Change class/campus during school year

Switching between language programs, age groups, or campuses are only possible at the beginning of each

school year. Exceptions may be made only at the discretion of the Principal.

Regular school attendance is mandatory. Frequent absences prevent a child from fulfilling academic expectations

and being advanced to a higher year level. In addition, any student who does not complete a full school year due

to late enrollment at HOK may not be able to advance the following year.

If there are any academic and/or developmental concerns regarding a student’s advancement to the next grade

level, teachers will consult with the parents. Our academic and admissions staff will work with the parents to

make the best recommendations for the child.

Children with Special Educational Needs

Children with special educational needs are considered for enrollment to HoK on a case-by-case basis, as

evaluated by the Admissions Committee. Decisions are made with best practice in mind. The level of support

required for the child along with the school’s scope for providing appropriate support is considered fully. HoK

may not be able to accommodate a child with significant needs or where children with special educational needs

are already enrolled in a class. Should a space be offered and additional support be required, such as an aide,

additional consultation, or therapies, it will be at the cost of the parents and arranged co-operatively by both the

parents and HoK.

Probationary Period

All new students are subject to a probationary period lasting 60 attended school days. Any initial placement is

tentative; the school may advise a change of grade level or class after the student’s abilities have been assessed

or withdraw a child’s acceptance in the event that the school does not have adequate resources to meet the

his/her needs. This may include, but is not limited to: the need for further psychological evaluations, advanced

language support services or a dedicated teacher/shadow. A full tuition refund, minus the amount for days

attended, will be given in this case.

In such circumstances, if, during the probationary period, information relevant to admissions was withheld,

inaccurate or falsified, HoK reserves the right to withdraw the student from school without refunding any fees.
